Akron Cooperative Farms

Akron Cooperative Farms is an urban farm in the North Hill community of Akron. We bring diverse residents and neighbors together around growing produce for their families and community as well as selling to the public.

Our mission is to transform underutilized land into urban farms for community gardens and entrepreneurial enterprises to strengthen the social and economic fabric of Akron through agriculture. We also provide training in regenerative agriculture, hydroponics, composting, and building the circular economy.

The farm consists of more than four and a half acres of land divided into plots, which are rented by 140 gardeners. Two hoophouses were built recently to support the farm’s sustainability and provide opportunities for gardeners.

Akron Cooperative Farms provides plots for gardeners of all skill levels. This has been such a popular community asset that we currently have a waiting list of people interested in plots. As we seek ways to expand our footprint, we hope to offer additional opportunities in the future.

Buy Local Produce

We host the Asian Services in Action (ASIA) Hapi Fresh Market from July through September. The market features a variety of vegetables, including local Asian veggies, recipe samples, and other goods.

ASIA is a comprehensive health and social service agency serving and advocating for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in Northeast Ohio.

Get Involved

There is always something to do on the farm. Whether you have an hour or two, are looking for something to do on a consistent basis, or want to bring your group for a big project, Akron Cooperative Farms can use your helping hand.

Additional volunteer opportunities are available that don’t involve manual labor. Contact us through the volunteer page on our website.

Help Us Grow

We recently received a Community Thrives $25,000 grant to support the final work on a market and community pavilion project, which will provide space for market vendors, gardener/community events, and our growing community education programs.

Donations are also accepted year-round. Your gift will help support local growers and their families, strengthen the hyper-local economy, and provide our region with a sustainable green space that beautifies the urban landscape. Please consider sponsoring or attending our second annual fundraiser, Harvest on the Hill, on September 9, 2023.
